Holiday house


Wouldn't you like to..... Wake up with the sun streaming in and the birds singing. Quick swim in the lake or a brisk walk along the shore, before a leisurely brekky with the kookaburras. Then over to the sandbar for a swim and a surf at Cellito Beach. BBQ lunch with the brush turkeys for company. Relax awhile. As the breeze picks up, sail, wind surf or kite surf on the lake. Pre-dinner drinks and a stroll along the lake shore to enjoy the sunset. Evening dinner (with the possums and bandicoots) before falling into bed..... only to... Wake up with the sun streaming in...

Make Our Retreat Yours


Angophora Grove is our escape from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. We would like you to make it your retreat, as well. The house is only metres from the lake, nestled among the beautiful Angophoras (the Apple Gums after which our property is named).

The house sleeps 6 -10 in 3 bedrooms (1 queen bed, 2 double beds and 1 single trundle bed) with 2 double sofa beds in the lounge room. There are two 2 Bathrooms. The layout of the house (See Plan in Images) makes it great for 2 families of friends to share.

We have TV (incl digital channels), CD and DVD or you can connect your laptop computer or i-Pod to the stereo system. There is also Wi-Fi Internet access. Please note TV reception is not city-quality!

The slow combustion log fireplace makes the house snug in winter.

When we visit we like cooking so the well-equipped, modern kitchen (condiments and spices supplied) and outdoor BBQ area allow meal preparation to be part of your holiday experience. But if cooking's not your idea of fun, you can order take-away or eat at a local restaurant.

The separate garage contains a table-tennis table and is a great play area on rainy days.

There is always ample parking in the street.

To relax or not...?


Do nothing or do everything...

You can choose to relax.... with a glass of wine and a good book with nothing more to disturb your day than bird song, the breeze rustling through the trees or the distant rumble of the surf rolling in on the ocean beach.
Or
You can choose to be energetic... and swim, surf, sail, paddle, water ski, windsurf or kite surf, putter round the lake in a tinny, go fishing in the lake or from the ocean beaches, play golf, walk or jog along the beach, explore the rock pools, do some snorkelling, stroll around the lake shore when the lake is low, visit the Frothy Coffee Boatshed and Cafe, check out the local market, pull on your walking boots and explore the coastal wilderness and rainforests of the National Parks and State Forests of the Great Lakes district, head off to the movies, eat out at a local restaurant and much more.

The lake shore beach is 20 metres from the back door and is great for swimming and sandcastles for the little ones and for an evening drink for the adults after a day of sailing or fishing or swimming or....

At Cellito Beach a mere 5-10 minutes drive away - you can surf, sunbake, fish, explore rock pools, walk and watch for dolphins & sea eagles.

Birdwatching


Be awakened by the kookaburras, entertained by the parrots, amazed by the sea eagles, delighted by the tawny frog mouth and wait with bated breath for the return of the rufous night heron and then there's the brush turkey mound right beside the house...

Bushwalking & wilderness


Bushwalking and wilderness experiences located nearby, Bushwalking maps provided, Located near a National Park.

The house is on a sealed road but the beautiful beaches, national parks and state forests await you. Gentle strolls and strenuous walks are both an option.

Canoeing & Kayaking


Canoe and/or Kayak facilities available nearby, Guests welcome to bring their own canoe/kayak, Secure storage facilities available, Located on waterfront.

No white water rafting but you can paddle to your heart's content on Smiths Lake, all the while enjoying the scenery and the circling sea eagles. At the end of the day pull your boat onto the sandy shore and walk 20m to the deck of the house to enjoy your evening tipple and prepare for the next day's adventures. Perhaps you might take your boat to Myall Lake or Wallis Lake for a change of scenery or try some ocean paddling off one of the nearby beaches.

Eco-friendly


Bio-diverse setting, Recycling facilities available.

We have solar-powered hot water and utilise Country Energy's green energy. The house is designed to welcome the breezes through and is surrounded by beautiful large gums trees (including a grove of Angophoras or Apple Gums which gives the property its name) and native bushland. We encourage guests to recycle and use our compost bin. Possums, bandicoots and myriad birds make their home nearby and a family of brush turkeys has established a giant mound on our property.

You'll never hear "I'm bored. What can I do?" The problem is deciding what to do & when. We provide puzzles, games and table tennis for those rainy days and TV / DVD player for quiet time. We are only 20 metres from the lake shore for all manner of water based activities. Walk 20 metres to the shore of Smiths Lake and invite the fish to share dinner time with you. You can also hire a boat at Frothy Coffee (just 1km from the house) or launch your own boat on the public boat ramp and spend time fishing all over the lake. Good beach fishing is also available at nearby Cellito Beach.
